COMMUNITY HEALTH AND DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT

The Community Health and Development department of Kachhwa Christian hospital is headed by Dr. George Varghese. The community health team of the hospital plays a very significant role in reaching out to every nook and corner of the villages, in creating awareness identifying those with various needs for their daily sustenance, providing available services at the home of the poor and thus uplifting them and caring for them.

We follow a model called H.E.E.L which includes Health, Empowerment, Education and Livelihood.

Disability Care:

In a context where any form of disability is often seen as a curse, this project aims at main streaming the disabled through appropriate intervention. Our disability work has resulted in obtaining disability certificates, equipment including wheelchair and crutches. Advocacy with the local government is an important part of this work. This is also part of our community-based rehabilitation project.

Children with various disability are identified in the community and along with intervention in the community they are also brought for physical therapy to our well-equipped physical therapy unit.

EMPOWERMENT

Womens’
Empowerment Project:

The Project aims at empowering women to be able to position themselves in strategic decision-making processes that take place at varying levels of social, economic and political contexts in the region. This is done by promoting women participation through capacity building and skills training, in order for them to be independent and to increase their ability to manage finances, thus enabling them to provide food for their family, educate children and afford better health care.

The focus is also on reducing poverty and attaining improved standards of living, advancing gender equality and ensuring elimination of all kinds of violence against women and children.

Adolescent Groups:

Often in a village setting the adolescent children do not have any one to guide them or watch out for them. Many our led astray by media, undesirable habits, some fall into depression and do not do well in studies. Through the Naee Disha (New Direction) curriculum, groups of adolescents are given life skill counselling and teaching. This is a means of impacting the community and ensuring positive influence at a crucial age.
